Description
The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced, and this 1922-manufactured example represents a desirable pre-war configuration chambered in .38-40 WCF. Featuring a 4 3/4-inch barrel and factory nickel finish, this revolver maintains approximately 97% of its original plating with only light flaking and mild oxidation visible from age and honest handling. The protected areas still retain strong brightness, giving the revolver excellent overall eye appeal.
This revolver displays classic Single Action Army characteristics including crisp Colt markings, matching cylinder numbering, and traditional hard rubber grips featuring the Rampant Colt logo. The grips are numbered to another firearm but remain in excellent condition and fit the revolver well visually. A curious notch with coarse tool marks appears on the left side of the barrel, likely added during the revolver’s long service life, though its exact purpose is unknown.
Mechanically, the revolver appears functional, though the quarter-cock safety notch allows slight hammer nose protrusion and should be inspected by a qualified gunsmith before firing. For collectors of early Colt revolvers, Western firearms, or pre-war American handguns, this is a strong example showing honest use while retaining substantial originality and character.
